thinkers who ought to know better. obama is out to kill the wounded. now that republicans are down. he's not going to make any proposals that republicans might actually sign onto. instead, he's going to make them look bad on things like immigration. but it's interesting -- >> but that's not working, cynthia. >> -- supposed to be the party of personal responsibility. >> that narrative, gene, isn't working because quite clearly there's a bipartisan plan on immigration as we see today. anytime boehner, the speaker of the house, who i don't dislike, would come out for a background check on guns, just push one measure, if he could get that through the house, he'd be a leader on the newtown, connecticut, horror. he could be the leader. it would force harry reid to do the same. he doesn't have to be a victim. >> i think dr. tucker's diagnosis was absolutely right. and i think, you know, this is the party's way of trying to deal with its own internal contradictions and issues. the republican party has issues, and the number one issue which they don't want to deal with is that most of the ameri

realist. if he assesses the situation a couple years down the road and sees that the clinton machine is still out there, and by the way, hillary took the twol clinton man to the state department. that was hillary land over there, not obama land. >> i understand that completely. >> if that's still going on, i think joe biden will look at it and say i'm not sure i have the organization to do it, and also he might not want to call the president out on it and take the gamble with the president because i'm not sure he would necessarily get the answer that he'd want to hear. >> steve kroft tried to get at the political meaning of the interview. this is rare. usually in our business if you know joy and howard, if you get an interview of this incredible quality, the president and secretary of state, the two most important people with bill clinton in the democratic party, you don't ask why you got it. but here he is apparently again trying to figure out why the two showed up together. here he is, steve kroft. >> i have to ask you, what's the date of expiration on this endorsement? >> oh, stev

convinced the democratic field will be defined quickly and that it may very we will come down to a private chat with hillary clinton, about who should finish what barack obama started. he is intoxicated about the democrats. according to the polls released today, 47% view him favorably, 46% unfavorably. 67% view hillary clinton favorably, 26% view her unfavorably. a democrat close to both joe biden and clinton said it is extremely unlikely they would challenge each other. they will both build up teams and see how it goes. the democrat said one of them will fade away as it becomes more obvious which one of them should be the standard-bearer for the obama legacy. i can't see them announcing the run, but both will have teams trying to get them to that. >> i haven't made that judgment, and hillary clinton has not made that judgment. but i can tell you what, everything that should be done over the next two years that i should be a part of would have to be done whether i run or i don't run. if this administration is successful, whoever is running as a democrat is better positioned to win. if it w

that dianne feinstein and barack obama wants to take away guns. they believe that in their bones. this legislation is so full of loopholes and wants to lay down a predicate to make it easier down the road to check gun owners and sue people who didn't store their guns properly. give the right government to go in people's homes. there is no trust that that is where the democrats will stop it as a down payment on a slippery slope. jon: these are the people in 2008, senator obama sock clinging to their guns and religion? >> yes, these are the people that he believes he can move and persuade to be in favor of gun control in states lik west virginia and wyoming. it's not going to happen. i will be very surprised if this thing ever gets out of the senate. i think speaker john boehner love the idea of saying that we will give serious consideration to whatever harry reid senate passes and sends to us in a matter of gun control. it's a terrible issue for democrats. i don't think obama has the loyalty among democrats in gun control that he thinks he has. jon: hairy weed has the support of t

's for a comprehensive immigration bill so maybe he's told his friends at fox to stand down on this. we'll see. but it's really -- it is sad that people, you know, make every single thing is about -- is it good for barack obama? i have to say when john boehner the speaker said well, i hope the president doesn't push this bill to the left and make it impossible. i mean why doesn't he just say isn't it great we're on the same page. we have an issue. it is challenging. it is going to be tough but let's all work together. oh no. the president should just be quiet. that's his message. well, i know the president will not be quiet. the president is going to hold our feet to the fire. we'll get this done. >> stephanie: i agree with you. i don't care why they do it. they tend to blurt things out like we need to get the latino vote back. that's the point -- something you're not supposed to say. >> i couldn't believe it. i had to shake my head when john mccain said on national news, you know, it's the latino vote. as if the latinos aren't listening to this. >> stephanie: they have some sort of different hearing

, unfortunately, under president obama's presidency. does it concern you, chief, that federal prosecutions per month in 2011 compared to those in 2010, the number of filings went down 7.9% and were down 28.8% from 2006 in federal court. does that concern you? >> i can tell you that in the baltimore police department -- >> i'm asking if those numbers concern you. >> no, because you are not including local prosecutions. i cannot stand here and tell you of a single case in baltimore county where a gun was involved that was not prosecuted. >> are we trying to pass a state or federal law today? it is a federal law we are trying to enforce. and with regard to the crimes of carrying a firearm during the violence or drug trafficking offense, those prosecutions declined. 5%.5. i would say that, first, we need to make sure we are doing our job. i would also note that although crime is a very important matter, we should never lose our emphasis on bringing down crime. the murder rate in america today is half what it was in 1993. we have made progress on that. and we can continue to drive those numbers dow
